What is tofu?

Made from a simple blend of soya beans and water, tofu is a staple of Japanese cuisine. Rich in protein and essential nutrients, it represents an ideal vegetarian alternative to meat, while being perfectly suited to both savoury and sweet recipes.

The benefits of silken tofu:

From a nutritional standpoint, tofu offers many benefits. It is low in calories and low in saturated fats, making it a light and healthy choice. Its high dietary fibre content contributes to intestinal health and helps stabilise blood sugar levels. It is also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, magnesium, potassium and folates. Unlike red meat, it contains no cholesterol, and it is naturally rich in antioxidants, helping to protect cells against oxidative stress and reduce inflammation. As part of a balanced diet, tofu helps maintain good overall health and promotes longevity.

SOMENOYA silken tofu:

Silken tofu stands out for its density and clean flavour, perfect for classic Japanese preparations such as Hiyayakko, salads or Agedashi tofu. But it also shines in sweet creations such as tiramisu or brownies, where it can be used in the form of soy cream.

Other silken tofu recipe ideas:

In addition to its plain versions, SOMENOYA offers a black sesame tofu with a rich and distinctive flavour. Enjoyed simply with a drizzle of soy sauce and a little wasabi, or drizzled with syrup for a light dessert, it also lends itself to more elaborate dishes. Added to stir-fries or noodles, it brings an entirely new gastronomic note. This tofu is not only delicious but also rich in protein, B vitamins, calcium, copper, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus. It embodies the perfect balance between gastronomic pleasure and nutritional benefits.

The incomparable SOMENOYA silken tofu:

What sets SOMENOYA apart is a strong commitment to quality, sustainability and authenticity. Only the finest organic soya beans are selected from European farmers, thereby supporting local agriculture. Soya cultivation, requiring fewer resources than animal proteins, significantly reduces the environmental impact. The tofu is made using traditional artisanal methods, preserving the original textures and flavours. Thanks to a high ratio of soya to water, SOMENOYA produces a dense, smooth and nutritious tofu.

Where to find silken tofu?

Discover silken tofu at Nishikidôri. There are mainly two types of tofu. Silken tofu, with its smooth texture close to that of a dessert cream, is traditionally enjoyed in Japan with a drizzle of soy sauce or a touch of wasabi. It forms the base of the summer dish "Hiyayakko tofu", appreciated for its freshness. Silken tofu is also perfect for sweet preparations such as tiramisus or brownies, and can replace yoghurt, crème fraîche or eggs in many recipes.

At Nishikidôri, we offer it in our shop at 6 rue Villédo in Paris.
